My parents serve as my inspiration whenever I do my glasswork. Being a glassmaker from Murano, he tried his luck creating and selling the glass art while moving all around Europe, before he finally settled in where we live right now, because he met my mother and they got married here. He continued creating the beautiful trinkets, vases and other colourful displays while my mother set up a small store in the town center. As I grew up I saw my parents build a new empire in the glass industry. Soon my father was teaching a lot of other people on how to create glass, my mother opened new stores in nearby counties. By the time I was twenty, the small store selling vividly coloured glass was now a vast glass industry. My father has retired from actual glassmaking but he’s still running the store together with my mother. I am now in charge of directing the creative aspects of the company. Part of our family company’s artistic collaborations included other family businesses on glass, including those that made crystal furniture pieces and glass trophies . Now I am mastering the creation of stained glass windows and crystal trophies.

Roy had just called him livid because the cheap indoor putting greenthat he had purchased had just given up the ghost and basically fell apart.
He had called the store but they said there was nothing they could do that he would have to deal with the manufacture that made the indoor putting green. The people who made it of course said that it was the stores problem. Roy had called Mac because it’s not like they were dealing with a few dollars here Roy had paid quite a bit of money for their inferior product.
Well Mac would get to the bottom of it as he always did. Roy always said having a lawyer in the family was a good thing and this once again proved it.

Thursday, July 21st, 2011I’ve been playing golf with my buddies for almost thirty years now. We’ve had kids, seen them grow up and head off to college over the years that we’ve been playing. Starting a few years ago we decided to start taking little golf vacations of our own. Just to try out a few of the courses around the country. But we really had a surprise this year. Marty had managed to find a way for us to get in some Myrtle Beach Golf. Myrtle Beach! It’s like going on a pilgrimage to a holy site. Let me tell you, we’ve all seen that course on TV right? Well when you are on it and walking around taking everything in it is even better. The sheer scope and size of the place is amazing and the greens were the best kept putting surface I’ve ever seen. I just hope we can head back there again some year.

Too many tennis players keep doing the same things in practice over and over and expect different results. Great tennis instruction is centred around challenging the students in the right amount!
If you want to work on your footwork for example, the right challenge could be moving your feet a few more times in between your shots. One way to do that is to actually count your steps in between shots and set goals for yourself. Great players use 10-12 steps on average between shots! If you currently use 6 steps on average than trying to get to 8 is probably a good challenge for you.
If you want to work on technique on the other hand, it is essential that you slow things down while working on it. It is pretty much impossible to change your strokes while playing points or even rallying at your normal speed! Therefore you challenge yourself to perform the new technique first at a very slow speed and only once you mastered the new technique do you move on to faster speeds.

Thursday, June 30th, 2011Man, do I remember the fun I had with my table tennis table down in the basement. When we grew up, my sister and I would often go down there and have epic matches. Not so much epic because our skill levels were so high that it was difficult for either of us to win a point let alone a game, but more because we fought so frequently over the rules and who was cheating or not cheating that a single game might last well over an hour. Still, the next evening we’d be back down there at it. Maybe we we’re just super competitive, but it didn’t stop there. We’d try to out do each other in just about everything now that I think about it but for sure those table tennis matches were great. Actually, that might make a good Christmas present for her kids. Then we’d could sneak on it and return to our epic forms.

By a Long Shot
Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011I recently made a personal record. We have this shooting competition wherein you shoot at targets at varying distances. This calls for focus and patience. One must have the right tools of the trade to finish this contest. Scores are based on distance, time and number of shots. The wind and humidity was unforgiving during the whole vent. Most struggled because they did not bring the right equipment to get the job done. With several tactical rifle scopes to choose from, I’m glad I chose the right one. Relying on the lessons my mentor taught me, I nailed target after target. Swirling winds made matters worse. As I adjusted my bead, the winds picked up. I took a deep breath and gently squeezed my trigger. I hit the target at 800 meters dead center.
I ran away with the win. My competitors had a hard time adjusting their scopes. Attention to the changing conditions is imperative. Without the aid of spotter, you won’t know how wide your shot might be. Having a solid foundation on basic long distance shooting did the job for me. This day was my lucky day. I won over the best, my mentor.
